The Funky Chicken

Its not often that I embed random films from youtube. Last night my bro & I decided this is the gig we would travel back in time for. Watch the whole funky thing. Once upon a time the fun police didn't actually exist.

My two favourite portraits (this week at least!)

On the bottom we have Jeff Decker. A supremely cool and friendly guy from Springville, Utah. He is a bronze sculptor and collector of the finest historic motorcycles in America. On the top, Cadillac Johnson. 85 years old and still touring Mississippi in his station wagon most nights of the week. Probably my finest musical experience listening to him sing and play the harmonica. Both will be on my wall at home very soon!

Wilmington, North Carolina

I've been shooting a film for Wrangler here. On the Black River to be precise.

Images below are of a small canoe cruise I went on with the main character of my film, a very wise and gentle man called Tom. He used to be a lawyer and has now retired to his swamp cabin to enjoy the silent beauty of the Black River. Its one of the most enchanting places I have ever been (if you forget about the bears, snakes and alligators) and listening to his stories and views on life was exactly one of the reasons I got into this job. Meeting people I would never normally get to meet.

Below are stills taken from the video footage. I was recording sound & video, syncing audio and interviewing him and still managed to get a couple of portraits with my film camera, although I wish i had more time. As usual.

Wrangler Archive

Shot a year or so ago at Paramount Studios. Real glass, real height and just the occasional injury.

Getting ready for 'changeable'

How difficult can this be?!! Its another film where you might want to skip along a bit but then you would not appreciate the full 3 course meal this woman makes of putting on a rain mac.

DJ FOOD for Ninja Tune (another sneaky peek)

Had a great shoot a little while ago with Strictly Kev aka DJ Food. He's a sci fi man. So we kept him happy!

Subway Drums

Shot this a couple of months ago on a wander. Its a long take, nearly 4 minutes but just flick through the time bar and the longer they go the more intense they get. Dudes.

Museum Portrait

There's a room at The British Museum that I love. It a room dedicated to the early collectors of stuff from around the world. More often than not they were just loaded blokes who decided to travel the new world and have a bit of an adventure. They were the first curators of the museum and responsible for its inception. Here's a cool head I spotted. An early punk sort of bloke.

Mary Anning

New project with the BBC working on a series of films they are making about the various clever clogs British history has served up over the years. Inventors, journeymen, leading lights. First up, Mary Anning, THE ORIGINAL fossil collector.
